ICD JAPAN NEWSLETTER No.9

This is the 9th editition of the ICD Japan Newsletter. We are sending this to individuals with whom we have exchanged business cards, as well as friends interested in youth talent development. We generally plan to publish four issues a year: in January, April, July, and October. Past issues are available at the bottom of our website’s homepage.

Yokoyama worked for a United Nations agency for nine years. After returning to Japan, he served at Toyo Gakuen University for 30 years, including five years as a part-time lecturer. He currently teaches a course on global talent at a graduate school in Tokyo.

ICD Japan was founded in 2022 to provide online career counseling services. We offer counseling in both Japanese and English. As counseling is not yet widely familiar to young people in Japan, we do not receive a large number of inquiries from them; currently, most of our individual clients are foreign nationals or Japanese citizens living abroad, and many inquiries concern the Japanese labor market. We began offering free group counseling sessions in 2025, and former students of mine have started taking advantage of this service. All registrations are handled via the URL: ICD Japan – Your Career Consulting Service. We invite readers of this newsletter to make use of our group counseling sessions as well.

I would also like to introduce a recent project. In October 2026, we published an English-language book titled *Transnational Diaspora Entrepreneurship: Cases from Brazil, Mexico, and Japan* (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-981-96-9381-8) through the German publisher Springer. This book was co-authored with Sarah Louisa Birchley and is available for free download online. A Japanese-language edition, titled *Research on Nikkei and Transnational Entrepreneurs: Cases from Brazil, Mexico, and Japan* (published by Bunshin-do), was released in February 2026 (https://www.bunshin-do.co.jp/catalogue/book5303.html). You can purchase the publication through online retailers or physical bookstores. If you are interested, please do read it and share your thoughts with us.
